Cyberpunk colour schemes big for the 20s

There is a feeling in the air that anything could happen, that we’re going to witness the next development of graphic design as we know it.

Even though it may take a couple more years for the 20s to hit their stride, designers are already showing us glimmers of what’s to come. Let us take a look at the reigning graphic design trends 2020 which are already beginning to describe this new decade.

Our streets may be clogged with electric scooters rather than flying cars. Still, considering how utterly computers have incorporated into our lives (right down to our pockets!), it does feel like we are living in the future. In graphic design, futuristic topics are often expressed with colour, especially vivid and oversaturated colours that we do not typically see in nature. These colours are related to cyberpunk, a sci-fi genre that usually depicts dark, futuristic, neon-infused cities, such as in the film Blade Runner.

In practice, cyberpunk colour schemes produce surreal experiences for audiences that they cannot experience in real life. Their brightness also makes layouts feel inviting and friendly, regardless of the fact they’re shamelessly calling attention to themselves.
